Mayor’s Message January 2013

SANTA PARTY:  We were all inside eating cookies and drinking hot Cocoa and having a good time when all of a sudden the fire whistle sounded and we all ran outside.  When what to our wondering eyes should appear, but police cars and fire trucks with sirens sounding and lights flashing, Santa was here.  “Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas”, he shouted as the children escorted him in.  Each child talked to Mrs. Claus and received a candy cane while waiting to sit on Santa’s knee and tell him their special requests.  Delana, the Elf, gave them a stocking with goodies inside, and then they picked a gift from the gift room.  A wonderful time was had by all.  A special thank you to the Town Hall Com., and chairman Nancy Pieper, for this wonderful event.  There are many others in the community that helped with this party.  Our thanks to Steve Lumpkin, Lupe Hadlett, Delana Nolen, Keith Hadlett, Linda and Robert Erdman, Bill and Gail Strickland, Marianne Stavinoha, Billie Johnson, Sonny Pieper, Judy Champagne, Angela Pieper, and Delores Nolen.  Thanks also to police officers Heath Smith and Eddie Abrego, and fireman Rocky Hicks, Matt Bowman, and Kelly Gabel, for the exciting parade.  Friends Church, Grace Community Baptist Church and Richard Fryer family donated toys and money to purchase toys.  Many others donated candy and other items for the stockings.  We are very grateful to you all.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS CONTEST:  The winner was Bob and Billie Johnson, 107 Cr 959, Amsterdam, who received $100.00, and $100.00, was donated in their names to the food Pantry.  The runner up was James (Jim Bo) Turner, 7503 CR 171. Thank you to everyone who put up the beautiful Christmas displays for the enjoyment of everyone in our community.

FOOD PANTRY:  We have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams this holiday season, which allowed us to provide a bountiful Christmas for our food pantry families.  A very special thank you to the Mark Tacquard Family, Alvin Sewing & Vacuum, for donating pork roasts and baking hens.  Mark also collected money from the following merchants:  Cambree Auto Service, Chris Peters State Farm Insurance, Snider Transmission of Alvin, B C Auto Repair Inc., and Parks Restaurant.  Others who donated were Grace Community Baptist Church.  Many other families brought turkeys, hams, and additional food.  We thank you all for sharing with our community.  Two special groups made really large donations to us in December. Charles Settles, ROTC, Alvin ISD, held a food drive and delivered the food to us. This is the second time this group has helped. Our neighbor, Ascend Performance Materials, held a food drive for several months, and delivered the food to us in time for Christmas.  There are no words to express our gratitude to all of you who donated so that we can continue to pass the blessings along to families in our community. “Alone, we can do so little: Together, we can do so much.” Helen Keller quote.
